#character #portraiture … more than just play !??!?

So … having spend a considerable amount on filmsets in recent months (as supporting artist and BTS Photographer) for some major big feature and small TV productions and short films, having had the pleasure to meet many peers in the industry with time on hand to chat … my curiosity about the place of a creative character portraiture was yet again awakened. Let alone my inspiration fueled …

With a an undeniable saturation of enthusiastic and ambitious freelancers, that populate London, that are looking to find footing in the industry – perhaps as Extras, perhaps as Actors in the making …all the same the representation of playfulness and ability to represent character, is what may just set you apart.

With the understanding that there is a argument to be had in between , typecasting, branding and showing versatility and ability to enact what is asked of you. I have taken my camera to those that are happy to explore with me , possible advancements of this niche – giving play a purpose!?

More often than not , it has come up in conversation that fellow Actors, Supporting artists and Extras felt that they are giving a particular role, character that not necessarily encompasses all that they are , can be or wish to be – the unwanted typecast that some agents just seem to stick with.

I am wondering how this very Agent would feel, if they were to receive a picture communicating the subjects ability to do different, to be adventurous and playful!? Or would these pictures not provide content for your hungry facebook feeds – showing your interest passion, commitment,

‘playfullness’ !?

Or just a little quirky image to look at and be reminded of the willingness to play … the phone may start ringing … , perhaps.

However I am really keen to hear your opinion and suggestions, or if you allow me to dress you up and set a scene for you and picture, explore the possible function … Get in touch.

when play become pictures … #headshots

Despite careful planning and consideration it is more often than not, that through play and happy accidents, some strong images are created and conceived and it is my greatest passion to capture and hold onto those fleeting moments,in a whirlwind of light, excitement & expression.

Finding that angle and setting the mood, creating that truthful pic…

None of this would be possible without a trusted Team and helpers, and I feel in recent month this has come to life – brilliantly.

Thanks to Kristy Prince for doing the Make up and getting the sitter camera ready, rearing to go… and all those other other helping hands, holding reflectors, shuffling props and are just there when needed (you know who you are), And all of that in the fabulous space that SIMULACRA STUDIO is, pleased to be a regular on those premises and the exceptional service included.

And in the end we are sure to have captured that straightforward image as intended in between a lot of play and fun…

SUMMER #location #portfolio SHOOT #character portraiture #actor #film

With the summer drawing to an end, I am reflecting once more on #Location #Photography, before I will retreat to the studio again – for my Photography session. Having had the pleasure to mingle with many Supporting Artists and Actors this summer on various Film and TV filmsets my insight and curiosity about this field of Photography has grown.

Discussing with Actors the difference between an ordinary headshot and its limitations, I have also set out to create the exact image (including carefully resourced props and location) as conceived by my clients, in order to create a new portfolio image, communicating characteristics about the sitter, perhaps not that often seen.

ON LOCATION #Headshots

I often wondered if the studio is the best place for a headshot session and I feel it has got its advantages,

…but there is something to be said about Locations Headshots. It adds a little texture and flavor to the background, hard to achieve in the studio, and quite often it gets a relaxed causal approach in the sitter.

Equipped with my new set of prime lenses and a keen I eye … this is an exciting field to explore.

The world at your fingertips … #studio #photography

Recent Studio shoot with an Actor looking to produce new dynamic portfolio images and Headshots, made me realize – yet again – the endless opportunities,that are available and possible in the environment of Studio photography.

I always am aware and sure to shoot what we set out to produce, but the playful – some say arty- experimental part of a studio session delivers intriguing work.

As some sitters and actors recognize the opportunities and the comfort of the studio environment and when trust and rapport is established, it is throughout those 5 minutes that I find stronger work is produced.

Well those may be my favorites but playful Character Portraits, may be of interest to a more dynamic Profile, some online posting or to prompt your agent, just to remind them

…what or who else you could be.

If not just a good sport.

But hey, he did remind me … of sculptural qualities, such as Michelangelo and other Greek sculptures: Atlas sprang to mind … only that this world seems to be getting smaller!?

Recent Assignments saw me commissioned with Portraiture Session in order to create profile pictures; fit for the professional realm, but yet a little different and with some character attributes, characteristic and connotations, that let’s you stand out from the crowd.

After sourcing a location in line with what was discussed throughout the consultation period, a casual and relaxed atmosphere allowed me to photograph even those that would have labeled themselves as camera shy and un-photogenic.

I beg to differ, and am certain to produce images, that are different but yet truthful enough in their representation to promote a profile you would want others to know about.
