BTS lookbook kwame

Timed with the Fashion week in London this week, (well the last two days) I am pondering over fashion and last weeks #lookbook shoot with award winning:

Kwame Koranteng Bespoke

As much as I care about people and the person that they truly are; I find it more and more of an expression of that – looking at what we wear. Well just enhancing your natural *you* of course. 😉

It was great making use of #studiomansionhouse and all it’s potential, that is to be found at  Beckenham Mansion, my current creative home. Here a little look behind the scenes.

Such a pleasure to be picturing all these suits, of a very talented up and coming bespoke designer.

Love a good suit or two 😉 …and we had 20 of them.

Am a very lucky and happy #photographer.

Studiomansionhouse 1

The famous chair that had quite few visitors lately and many stories to tell. 😉 If you have any queries in regards to anything Photography related ; do come and see us!

Available to be visited on the second floor of the Mansion:

Every Wednesday night. #FREE #EventStudiomansionhouse

So far I had queries not just about cameras and lenses, but also questions and sneak peeks behind the scenes of a headshot and portrait session. Through talks and chats it is amazing what all parties (including me) discover and learn.

I love sharing my experience and insights as well as the space and set up. Email me as these free sessions are limited in spaces, and I would want to make sure I have enough cups of teas and biscuits.

Looking forward to meeting you at #studiomansionhouse

OM mag

Happy to share that a couple of my pictures have made it into this months @OMYogaMagazine. Shot in the studio and on location quite a while back, it is not only exciting to see these resurface, but also exciting to see them in print!

And little I knew when the location pic was taken of Donna Noble, in the very grounds of the Mansion, that this will be my creative home. #studiomansionhouse

Nice when pictures meet their purpose #promotional, do the talking and go into print!

‘Festival of light’ at the Mansion & #openstudio

Festival of light1.jpg

I have been a bit quiet on here lately … not to say that there hasn’t been loads worth sharing!?!  However, just a quick note that today is the day where we  have a mini (well we would expect around 1000 people throughout the day) festival at the Mansion, to get us all into the festive mood.

With wreath making workshops, Choir , stalls and much more…and most important of all, we have an Exhibition in one of the main rooms, in that stunning listed building (that alone is worth a visit) … and us artists on the second floor will open our doors between 12:00-15:00.

Come say hello (all the important stuff happens off line 😉 ! ) See my new work first time unveiled, buy a print, book a studio session, get some stocking fillers , get creative your self or just enjoy the sounds and sights.

Looking at what makes a good photograph by developing creative and conscious use of design elements, such as texture, rule of thirds, leading lines etc. – and most of all the reading on meaning.

A littel recap on technique; on using your camera manually, balancing exposure with shutterspeed, aperture and ISO.

The group will go on a further walk (with bad weather we stay in the Studio) to improve your camera skills…

SESSION 1 – ‘BEFORE WE LOOK’

Before we go on a guided walk to put the talked about into practice. With a little historical overview I hope to establish your context for your Photography.

TTV photography workshop SESSION 2

This camera skill program of mine TTV (ThroughTheViewfinder) saw its progression with a nice small group into the second session. Each session is made of an hour talk (in my studio space on the second floor in the mansion) and an hour walk, to put into practice what was talked about.

This session was all about: ‘What we see…’ , exploring design elements in Photography whilst reinforcing the manual camera control, explored in the first session.

TTV 2

Well and right here we see a picture of me with one of the participants, captured by yet another … It excites me to see how my methods and parallels help these photography enthusiasts to get to grips with the manual settings, taking back control over the machinery and understanding photography as it is intended…drawing with light and not acting as a machine operator.

Opening up a window into their world , sharing with greater understanding and skill, preserving the methods in photography as they always have been, before the digital era took over. I can’t wait to conclude with these guys in the 3rd session next month (‘After the click…’) Hopefully showing their work in the Mansion in an exhibition; to remain truthful to the whole process from conception to creation and print…

Stay tuned. New dates for another round of workshops are in the diary…

TTV WORKSHOP SESSION 1 04-09-17 6PM

Come through the doors of opportunities and join us at the Mansion for another round of skill based Photography workshops (TTV= Through The Viewfinder).

We meet by the fireplace in the Hall next to my Blackboard, for 6pm: before we go to my Studio Space on the 2nd Floor. Spending an hour talking before we spend the second hour walking…and practice what we discussed.

Old school is the new cool … !?!?

I can’t criticize the modern digital medium for it’s accessibility and fast turn around but with recent workshops, students volunteers and endless conversations; fueling and sparking my passion for the very medium of photography, it becomes clearer and clearer to me that not all new is better than the old – or even more to the point: the new is better understood with keeping the old in mind.

Screen Shot 2017-08-22 at 10.40.00

All to often does it come up that the digital world and facebook fakery – dilutes the very essence of what Photography once ment – at least to me and other fellow Photographers that have executed the mechanical click and the chemical process that followed.

Oh and all the in-between!?!? … Well we do see pictures everyday, all of us are ‘photographers’ with a camera with in reach- at any given point in time. So I do wonder what – or how can I pinpoint the essence that I see being swept away with a stream of digital files, images and hungry social media feeds!? Whatever happened to the Photograph !?

So I took this exemplar of an SLR – as pictured- (got a few to choose from) and loaded it with a film, quite a few months ago. Well there it all starts : all the consideration, decisions and commitments: executed just by that fact of choosing the ISO, brand and length of the roll of film -gets the very thing going that is crucial in Photography. Choosing , decision and commitment to what will last there after: the CLICK.

Going through this very process memories come only to remind of time passing … hah another crucial notion in Photography… Step one is taken and not all is instant in its revelation and developing meaning: so please stay tuned for some more writing, notion and thoughts shared on this very topic #photography

…and some aspects that seem to be a thing of the past ,worthy of a resurgence … in at least thought & consideration.
