self-portrait

self portrait one 3

Strange time that we are in – it became all to clear that intrapersonal skills – knowing yourself – is probably the most useful thing to possess in this and any crisis.

With an expansion of my photography and steps into the art-department for TV & Film, I feel an importance of photography and its change in aesthetics emerging – adjusting perception to the new world we live in- is imminent.  We are all so much more on screens – just now !?!?

Change is all around us – as there were changes to my arts practice – working from home.

With time on hand I created this Blog to allow a sneak behind the scenes for filmmaking and other developments in my freelance ambitions. Which inspired me to explore some new aesthetics and ways of storytelling in my Still Photography, too.  (without people !?!LOL)

What better place to start then with(in) yourself – with an open mind (ego aside -we are all in this together) and explore what is to come next.

Stay tuned …

‘Otherness’ …

Well its gotta be said: …this is my fight, too.

Especially as an artist I appreciate and embrace ‘otherness’ as a wonder of life.  And I feel speechless that in 2020 people still discriminate, misunderstand, judge – and see themselves as superior to others.
Time to really bring the message home: we are all together in this!

Love the skin your in, no matter what colour.

And this should be respected and supported by all of us.

DO YOU and let others be who they are, with encouragement and support.

No-one should feel ashamed or fear what colour this comes in.
As colour and difference makes this life interesting and worth living.

I had the pleasure of meeting and experience the variety of people and walks of life, in my worklife and beyond.  And glad to see that times have changed in some ways: and many embrace this with curiosity.

Still-  there is still a long way to go, as some are still behind with their understanding and attitude.

#IWD2020

Just in case you wondered what I have been doing aside long my #photography in the last year. Spending time behind the scenes : Making things happen and look good. Working with an amazing #crew finding out what is possible when we come together.

Living my passion for making things happen. And dispersing prejudice and misconception about what is possible.

Here an article for the Company that showed me new horizons, and how the journalist captured me    (…she said. LOL):

Wishing you all #EachForEqual a Happy Womans day #IWD202

The creative aftermath

brush and plate

With recent development in my creative endeavours, mostly away from the camera I have fully committed to the creative industry and an involvement in the 3 dimensional world of making.

Not all so sure at all times; what will happen throughout this process and how to find the moment of reaching creative flow; is what currently intrigues me the most .

With perhaps a clear goal in mind or not – it is the process itself and what is experienced on that path, that gets most of my attention.  It may not be the material, tools, skill or project that gets this motion rolling, but the ability and opportunity of place, space and being fully present.

And of course the inspiration of an end product is not to be dismissed, but I see that as an aftermath of the creative process itself.

Having spend endless amounts of time, behind a screen and camera; befriending the digital and virtual world my tactile senses of touch, texture and navigating on a 3 dimensional plane have been withering. This has changed and outside my work as a member of crew making things happen, my own arts practice is growing – and so am I.

Looking at a picture rather then an experience, wondering what the onlooker can see rather then what happens or had to happen when the picture unfolds in front of the lens; Is one of the perceptions I have set out to change.

bookmaking

In recent weeks and months I have offered Community workshops ( Bookmaking –  and Rubbish to roses) at my creative home, where I have my studio: at

 Beckenham Place Mansion

Only to offer this experience to others and observing the pleasure of people going through this process, pushing on when you wonder what you are actually doing, realising your very own personal preferences and aesthetics, sharing something quite personal in a group setting, allowing yourself to express, explore and play, learning about your senses and abilities in a joyfull way … coming a little closer to what makes you *you* .

An experience all to valuable in a world where we are mostly conditioned and subject to Consumerism and to perform or act out a role in order to obtain buying power.

So allow yourself to explore an innate human need to create and make and see where it takes you.

Happy to hear about your creative experiences good or bad 🙂

Love & Light xxD

SPRING at THE PAXTON CENTRE

tree

Some may have seen the ( unwatermarked) Giclee prints of these at Beckenham Mansion (one is permantly hanging in the cafe in the basement) at our open studio days.

But I have been invited to show my work at The Paxton Centre , this month.

Binary

The original prints are very different to these watermarked on screen impressions, but more important is the environment and ambience of the art cafe – which enhances the intentions, when I created this series, that I called ‘Cogitation’.

Contemplating our human condition and encouraging the mindfull state of mind we expereince for instance; when viewing art.

circuit

This weekend (27th of April 2019) coming, Crystal Palaces Artists are opening their doors for the weekend.

So why not come out and ponder over Art at OPEN STUDIOS in Crystal Palace

and ponder of what you see and how you feel.

city

Get out in this city of ours and discover what is around you and how you feel within.

You never know what beauty you may find in things you may not have considered worth a second look – or just thinking about it.

dead flowers

I will be out and about to in Crystal Palace this weekend:  probably sipping a coffee at the Paxton Centre, whilst pondering and processing impression and things I rest my eyes upon or seeking inspiration of all those other talents around us. Having a sneak behind the scenes of those artists in Crystal Palace.

Get in touch over social media , happy to share impressions and views and listen to yours.

These paintings of mine are available as  Giclee Prints (beautiful pigment sprayed on thick paper),

framed and ready to adorn your walls, at the Paxton Centre. All of my work will come down next week, so get out there and get a piece of art to ponder over.

Happy spring and new beginnings to you all.

A picture of vision

visionboard

As time passes I have been transitioning from Photography and capturing what is ( in front of the lens) to a bigger intrigue of what we can’t see, the world of the Arts and the creative Industry.

book 6

As Photographer I have been able to capture what is ‘real’; often following the guidance of intuition and what feels right and true.

With recent developments of my work life in the creative industry ( Supporting Artist for TV & Film and other productions)  the arts  has become a new focus and I have taken up the arts practice of painting and  artprints – contemplating humanity and the current social realism.

book 2

With my studio practice at BECKENHAM PLACE MANSION as Photographer ( yes I still take Portraits, intrigued by each individual, that comes to sit in Photography Studio sessions) and Artist( exhibiting at present and in the past year) ; nestled in a growing and changing community and park, the arts has become more of an immediate interest.

Expressing what is real in creations of ‘VisionBoards and Artist Books” ; an individual experience and vision but yet a uniting Intuition; visualising what you knew but couldn’t quite see.book 3.jpg

Looking to nurture this  instinct and the vision of creativity and change; following senses and a flow – often left behind in ordinary lives. I will be facilitating workshops at Beckenham place Mansion, open to the Community. Starting in May 2019.

Keep your eyes on the EVENTS PAGE

You will be able to create your own vision board – I am there to help you along – or manipulate old books to create something new,

book 8

book 9

Often a quite brutal method to create something else- to make note of what is new ?

book 11

…or learn how to bind all those pieces of memory of your experiences, travels …

( those bits of paper you never know what to do with) into a book.

book 4book 7

Hope to see you there – let’s get creative and get a picture of vision, embracing change and creativity.

Challenges … ( 60 sec interview )

Looking back at 2018, it must have been one of the more challenging years in my lifetime. But that is not all bad. As some of you know I feel strongly about communities and contributing to a wholesome society, offering support, development and change where I can.

One of the Charities The Reason Why Foundation I have mentored for in the past, invited me along to a fundraising event, completing the #3peakchallenge in the Yorkshire dales in Summer of 2018.

3peak select 5

And what an experience it was; you could write a book about that day alone. LOL

But for now here are some pictures I took at the Event. To complete an insight in the day and cause, the Founder of the organisation offered some honest words in this 60 second interview, with me.

Enjoy … and embrace every challenge there may be, to grow from where you are to where you want to be.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

Who are you and what is your position within the Foundation !?

Roger, Founder.

As far as I understand the Foundation is a lot about listening and offering support in times of change for people with convictions. What do you see as the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge for our service users is living with their childhood trauma and for us, it’s funding.

What was the most rewarding moment so far?

There have been so many over the last 6 years, most recently I met one of the people we supported about 4 years ago. They’re now in their 3rd year at college, working part time and have set up their own clothes label, selling online. They were just so happy and full of life, so good.

3peak select 1

How does a physical challenge (like the 3 peak challenge) relate to your foundations goals?

Our service users face challenges every day that many people never face in their lives and what is challenging for one person, may well be nothing at all for another. We also get to relate to others that we might not normally come into contact with in our usual daily lives, having shared a challenging experience/time. There were many parallels.

3peak select 3

Having completed the 3peakchallenge, what was the greatest revelation to you?

Physical attainment and Emotional regulation. Simply by being part of a group, we are encouraged to do and be more than we would normally, and we keep (or not) our emotions in check when in a group situation.

3peak select 4

And why do you think we should embrace challenges in our lives ?

Challenges help us to grow and learn. They show us what we’re capable of, that we can do more and be more than we might sometimes believe. They help us to consider what it’s like to face difficulties and overcome them, managing the feelings of failing and seeing the learning in not succeeding.

How important do you see empathy in your line of work?

Empathy is vital, so is concern for others. Empathy without concern for others is simply not enough to be an effective support for the people that come to us for help.

What is your milestone for the Foundation before the end of the year?

We would like to host a celebration for all our volunteers and service users to thank them and acknowledge their hard work, effort and achievement. Oh, and get enough funding to do more of the incredibly valuable work we’ve been doing for over 6 years with more than 500 people with less than 5% having returned to offending.

How can people support the Foundation?

People can support the Foundation by volunteering their time and/or by making one off/monthly donations of any size. We have a £3/month campaign at the moment, sort of like a reduce crime for the cost of a coffee.

#presspackage -Studio Photography

Sharing some of the experiences and shoots that took place at #studiomansionhouse (as there have been plenty of shoots already just this year), I would like to highlight the importance of a studio session:

It is the comfort and opportunity a good studio session offer: A most practical purpose for some of the pictures I take, is the official sharing of oneself for presspackage and media, online or website.

And as much as it may seem boring (to some) to just have a white box offered, with some fancy light (why should you pay for that !?) it is the comfort privacy of the place, the chilling or banging tunes, the focus and feedback, the views and vibes, the chat and tea in between, that allows to create a nice selection and versions of the natural you – in front of the lens.

Screen Shot 2018-02-20 at 17.09.28

And in the selfie generation that we are in and with many people that may own a camera, I would like to think that my interpersonal skills, or just the presence of a professional photographer; gets you to project and let’s you shine at your best.

It is the feedback the collaboration and team work in these session that excites me the most. To eventually choose the one simple image to represent all that there is about you – with ease confidence and clean cut – but yet just naturally you.

SELECTION Kasun 2b

Let me help you make this statement with your own personal photography session, styling and tea included- at affordable prices. Available with studio access 7 days a week 😉

Love & Light …with heaps of patience.
